Stars Clinch Playoff Spot with Win Over Spurs

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (20-11) earned a victory in their final game of the regular season tonight, defeating the Austin Spurs 134-107 at the Maverik Center. With the win, the Stars clinched a top-four seed in the 2023 NBA G League Playoffs, securing the club's first ever home playoff game.

The Stars were led by Christian Vital, who notched 26 points on 10-for-12 shooting and 3-for-5 from downtown. Isaiah Miller added 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists in 22 minutes of play. While Utah Jazz two-way player Micah Potter notched a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rawle Alkins led all reserves with an impressive 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

The Spurs were paced by Olin Carter III, who scored a game-high 38 points to go with two rebounds, and three assists. Austin's center Brandon Randolph player tallied 15 points, while four other Spurs players scored in double-figures.

The game began with a battle in the first quarter with five lead changes and three ties. However, Salt Lake City managed to come out on top, ending the quarter 36-27 after shooting .734 percent from the field. The Stars kept the pace in the second, leading by as many as 18 points during the frame. Vital could not miss, notching 21 points for the Stars on 8-for-8 from the field and 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Salt Lake City sent Austin into the break trailing by 14-points.

The final frame of the night was pushed by Salt Lake City's bench who contributed an outstanding 32 points. As the final buzzer sounded, the Stars secured the victory 134-107, along with their 2023 Playoff spot.

This is the third time in Salt Lake City Stars history that the team has clinched the G League Playoffs. The last time the Stars secured a spot in the playoffs, the team led the Western-Conference during the 2019-20 season. However, due to COVID-19, the Playoffs were cancelled.

The first round of Playoffs will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 28 or Wednesday, Mar. 29 at Vivint Arena.

More information regarding the Stars' match-up and game time will be announced following the conclusion of Saturday's games.
