Osceola Magic News Release
LAKELAND, FL - The Hoops for Hunger program was designed in partnership with the Lakeland Magic and The Mosaic Company to raise money to provide meals to local children in need. Now in its fifth year of existence, the program benefits KidsPACK and One More Child, local non-profits aimed at decreasing food insecurity for the children of Central Florida communities. For every three-point shot made by the Magic at home during the 2022-23 season, Mosaic donated $200 to the Hoops for Hunger program. This season the Lakeland Magic and Mosaic have donated a record amount of $57,000 to fight local childhood hunger.
The Lakeland Magic and Mosaic have partnered with the Hoops for Hunger program each season since 2018. After this year's record amount, the program has now donated a total of $202,500 to help feed the Central Florida community.
"Partnering with the Lakeland Magic and supporting the Hoops for Hunger program embodies Mosaic's mission to be a thoughtful and engaged neighbor who seeks relationships with organizations that are making a difference in the community," said Morgan Odum, Mosaic Public Affairs Specialist. "KidsPACK and One More Child have made, and will continue to make, a positive difference in the local community as they work to ensure children and their families do not go hungry."
"Our partnership with Mosaic is incredibly meaningful, fighting local hunger is one of the Lakeland Magic's main community initiatives. We are proud to continue to help feed our community alongside The Mosaic Company," said Hans Steinbrenner, President of the Lakeland Magic. "Through the last five years, we are thrilled to announce over $202,500 has been donated from the Hoops for Hunger program after another record amount given this season. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with such great partners like The Mosaic Company and our continued fight against food insecurity in our local community."
Lakeland Magic guard Zavier Simpson currently has the third-highest three-point percentage in the NBA G League, shooting nearly 48 percent from behind the arc. Aleem Ford and Jay Scrubb lead Lakeland in total three-pointers made with 107 and 98 respectively.
A special check presentation ceremony featuring the Lakeland Magic, Mosaic, KidsPACK, and One More Child was held at the Lakeland Magic game on Tuesday, March 21.
