Lincoln Stars News Release

LINCOLN, NE-On Sunday, the Stars kicked off Military Appreciation Day against the Tri-City Storm with blistering force. Fresh off a frustrating loss to Sioux City, Lincoln was determined to respond against the second-ranked Tri-City Storm, a team they've fallen to twice already on the young season.

Shane Pinto led the charge, as the rookie re-took the team points lead when, off a pass from Caleb Rule, he stuffed the puck through the pads of Storm starter Jake Barczewski. The goal came just 1:28 into the contest and sparked an early surge for Lincoln. Jacob Mucitelli provided steady goaltending for the Stars as Tri-City struggled to generate many quality chances. Bolstered by solid play on both ends of the ice, Pinto's line would strike again just past the 7:00 marker of the first. Josiah Slavin found Pinto to the left side of the offensive zone, where Pinto led Caleb Rule to the net for the deke and score. The defense locked down the remainder of the period, as Tri-City continued to struggle with consistency in the attacking end.

In the second, physical and chippy play picked up, with each team taking multiple turns on the power play, but finding no room with which to capitalize for a score. The defense on both ends held firm into the third with the score still 2-0 Stars.

In the final period, Lincoln received insurance from the usual suspects. On a strong shift in the attacking zone, Rule found Slavin, who kicked a puck back to Pinto on the right circle. The Stars leading-scorer picked his spot and buried a blast top shelf for the 3-0 lead at 8:14. Lincoln held on for the remainder of play, and scrambled hard in front of their goalie after the Storm pulled theirs to try and spoil the shutout. For the final minute of play, Tri-City threatened but couldn't find the twine, as Jacob Mucitelli recorded the first shutout of his Stars career, as well as Lincoln's first of the season.

The win put the Stars back within one game of pulling even in the wins and loss columns as they prepare for another home showdown against Sioux Falls next week. Puck drop for the Friday contest with the Stampede will take place at 7:05 pm. Call the Stars Box Office at (402)-474 7827, or order tickets online!
