Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Stars (20-25, 66-49) staved off a sweep at the hands of the Jacksonville Suns (29-16, 65-50) by defeating Jacksonville by a 2-1 final on Monday afternoon from Joe Davis Stadium.
Greg Holle (W, 2-2) earned the win for Huntsville by not allowing a hit or a walk over the course of two shutout innings of relief, collecting a strikeout in his winning effort.
David Goforth (SV, 23) picked up his Southern League-leading 23rd save of the year by going the final two innings, not allowing a run on just one hit while walking a batter to close out Huntsville's win in the series finale.
Dustin Moseley pitched well despite not factoring into the decision, allowing a lone run (earned) on three hits over six quality innings, not walking a batter while finishing with three strikeouts in his Monday afternoon outing.
Jay Rogers (L, 6-3) took the loss for Jacksonville, allowing the go-ahead run (earned) on two hits with one walk and one strikeout in his inning of work.
Matt Ramsey worked a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a hit while striking out a batter in his clean inning of work.
Jacksonville opened up the scoring with a run in the top of the third to take the early lead. Austin Nola scored on Shea Vucinich's fielding error on a ball put in play by Brady Shoemaker to put Jacksonville in front by a 1-0 score in the top of the third inning.
But the Stars answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Josh Fellhauer's RBI triple brought in Yadiel Rivera to tie the game at 1-1 after three innings of play.
Huntsville moved ahead for good after scoring once in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Erik Komatsu came down to score on a wild pitch by Jay Rogers to give Huntsville the lead at 2-1 after seven innings.
The Suns will be off on Tuesday and then be back in Jacksonville for a five-game series with the Mississippi Braves beginning on Wednesday, with first pitch of the series opener set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
