Stars End Five Game Skid

Huntsville, AL-The Huntsville Stars grinded through a 2-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns Monday afternoon at Joe Davis Stadium to end their five game losing streak.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Stars had the bases loaded with two outs. With Haniley Statia batting, Jacksonville reliever Jay Rogers(6-3) delivered a wild pitch which allowed Erik Komatsu to scamper home from third base giving the Stars a 2-1 lead.

David Goforth came in out of the Stars bullpen and pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to secure a two inning save. It was Goforth's twenty third save of the year the most in the Southern League.

Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead against Huntsville starter Brent Suter in the top of the third inning.

With runners at first and second base and nobody out, Brady Shoemaker hit a sharp grounder off second baseman Shea Vucinich's glove that allowed Austin Nola to score.

The Stars tied the game in the bottom of the third against Jacksonville starter Dustin Moseley.

Josh Fellhauer tripled allowing Yadiel Rivera to score to knot the game at 1-1.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Moseley, went six innings allowing three hits on one run.

Suter pitched five innings and gave up six hits on one run for the Stars.

Greg Holle(2-2) earned the win out of the Stars bullpen. Holle, pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning to lock up the win.

The Stars were able to avoid the five game sweep from the Suns and ended their ten game homestand with a 4-6 record.

The Stars(20-25, 66-49) will have Tuesday off and then begin a ten game road trip starting Wednesday night in Birmingham against the Barons at Regions Field. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:50 CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
