Bullpen Struggles Continue in Walk-Off Loss to Lookouts

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons blew their 19th save of the season Monday as the Chattanooga Lookouts overcame a 7-4 eighthinning deficit to win 8-7 in front of 2,509 fans at AT&T Park.

The Lookouts jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning against starter Myles Jaye, getting an RBI single from Bobby Coyle and a two-run double off the bat of O'Koyea Dickson.

The Barons responded with a pair of runs in each of the next two innings, cutting the lead to 3-2 in the second on RBI hits by Christian Marrero and Michael Earley and taking a 4-3 lead in the third after a two-run homer from Rangel Ravelo. The home run was his 9th of the season and was one of two hits for Ravelo in the game including his 31st double of the season.

The Lookouts tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Bobby Coyle against Jaye who took a no-decision allowing four runs on eight hits over 5.2 IP.

The score would remain knotted until the eighth inning when Grant Buckner crushed a two-out three-run home run to put the Barons ahead 7-4. Bucker was thrust into the game in the second inning after an injury to OF Christian Marrero.

Reliever Braulio Ortiz (0-2, 12.19) came on in the bottom half of the inning and allowed an RBI groundout to Chris O'Brien after a leadoff double to Daniel Mayora, cutting the lead to 7-5 heading into the ninth.

The lookouts would complete their second walk-off win in as many days in the ninth starting with a leadoff walk to Darnell Sweeney. Ortiz struck out the next batter, Bobby Coyle, but it would be the last out recorded in the game as the Lookouts tallied four consecutive hits starting with back-to-back singles by Scott Schebler and Dickson cutting the lead to 7-6. David Cales was brought in for Ortiz and promptly allowed a game-tying single to Corey Seager and the game winning base hit to Mayora on consecutive pitches.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 22-22 in the second half and 51-63 overall while Chattanooga improved to 18-25 in the second half and 44-69 overall.

The Barons have an off-day on Tuesday before returning to action on Wednesday when they begin a five-gameseries against the Huntsville Stars at Regions Field. RHP Tony Bucciferro (1-0, 4.26) will take the hill for the Barons in game one of the series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
