JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 4, 2014) - The Generals (20-24, 51-62) won the rubber match of the series Monday, 2-1 over Montgomery (22-23, 58-57) 2-1 and took the series, winning three of five from the Biscuits. Jackson won their fourth series in their last six behind a defense that turned three double plays that helped starter Tyler Pike earn his third Double-A win. The Generals entering the travel day on Tuesday are just three games back in the Southern League North standings.

Montgomery got on the scoreboard first in the second inning against Pike as Hector Guevara doubled to score Jeff Malm from first for the early 1-0 lead.

In the fifth, the Generals were a little creative to score a pair of runs as Pat Kivlehan (1x3, R) led off with a base hit and Jory Lara (2x3, R, 2B) followed with a double. With no outs and runners on second and third, Jackson received back-to-back sacrifice flies from Dario Pizzano (0x2, RBI) and Dan Paolini (0x2, RBI) to take a 2-1 lead.

That would be all the help Jackson pitching needed as Tyler Pike (3-2, 6.29) picked up his third victory in a Jackson uniform as he allowed just one run on four hits in 5.1 innings. Moises Hernandez (0-5, 5.55) and Stephen Shackleford (5-2, 3.51) each earned a hold as they combined for 2.1 scoreless innings and Mayckol Guaipe (1-2, 9 SV, 2.30) saved his ninth game of the year as he recorded the final four outs.

The Generals will take an off day on Tuesday to travel to Pensacola to begin a five-game set with the Blue Wahoos on Wednesday. Cam Hobson (6-9, 4.14) will make the start for Jackson as Pensacola will send Ben Lively (1-5, 3.48) to the mound. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
