Stamps re-sign a pair of linebackers

(Calgary) - Today, the Calgary Stampeder Football Club announced the re-signing of Linebackers Scott Coe and Brian Clark.

Coe a Canadian Linebacker is playing in his second season with the Stampeders, after being acquired via free agency on February 27, 2004. Last season he played in all 18 regular season games fighting through several injuries. In 2004, Coe was named the teams Most Outstanding Canadian. Thus far in 2005 Coe has recorded 19 defensive tackles, two quarterback sacks, two tackles for a loss, one special team tackle and one pass knockdown.

Clark originally signed as a free agent on March 10, 2004 with the Stampeders. Clark remains one of the most impressive and intimidating defenders in the league. In 2003 Brian was named to the Intergold CFLPA All-Star Team which is voted upon by the players, coaches and fans of the CFL. Thus far in 2005 Clark has recorded 21 defensive tackles, five tackles for a loss, two pass knockdowns, two special teams tackles and one quarterback sack.

As per Club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Entering his fourth season in the CFL and second with the Stampeders ... has played in 56 CFL regular season games (Stampeders: 24 regular season) ... previously played with the Hamilton Ti-Cats in 2002 and 2003 ... ... originally drafted by the Ti-Cats in the fifth round (43rd overall) in the 2002 Canadian College Draft ... signed with Hamilton in May, 2002.

2004

Played in all 18 regular season games ... in 2004 Scott showed his desire to play the game when he recorded career highs in several categories despite playing the majority of the season with an injured shoulder. Coe finished the season with 71 defensive tackles (third on the team - single season career high), tied for fourth on the team in sacks with 4 (single season career high), tied for team lead in forced fumbles (2) and led the team in fumble recoveries (4) (both career highs). Scott also recorded two interceptions one for a touchdown which tied his single season career high in 2003.

2003

Played in 14 regular season games in his second year in the league ... picked up 26 defensive tackles, two knockdowns, two interceptions for 11 yards, one tackle for a loss, one sack and finished fourth on the team in special team tackles with 13.

2002

Scott played his first CFL game on June 29 vs B.C. ... had a season-high three special team tackles July 18 at B.C. was second on the team in special team tackles with 16 to Randy Bowles (23) ... selected by the Tiger-Cats in the 5th round (43rd overall) of the 2002 Canadian College Draft ... signed by Hamilton in May, 2002.

College

Played four seasons for the University of Manitoba (1998 to 2001) ... key member of a Bison team that was a Vanier Cup Finalist in 2001 ... Coe was a big-time performer for the Bisons, and in 1998 was named Canada West Rookie-of-the-year ... in 2000 he was a second Team CIAU All-Canadian and a first Team CIS All-Canadian in 2001 ... in 2002 Coe ranked second in Canada West with four interceptions for 93 yards and made 27 defensive tackles ... while at the University of Manitoba Scott studied the Arts.

2003

Played in all 18 regular season games and the west division semi-final vs the Saskatchewan Roughriders ... during the regular season Brian recorded seven interceptions for 52 yards, five more than any other teammate ... he also recorded 40 defensive tackles, 15 special team tackles, four tackles for a loss, three pass knockdowns and two sacks ... in the western division semi-final vs the Roughriders Clark recorded three defensive tackles and one special team tackle ... was named to the 2003 Intergold CFLPA All-Star Team which is voted upon by the players, coaches and fans of the CFL.

2002

Clark played in all 18 regular-season games as well as the 2002 West Division Semi-final and the 2002 West Division Final ... Clark was at or near the top of every Blue Bombers defensive category in 2002 ...He led the club in tackles for a loss with six for 23 yards lost and in pass knockdowns with seven ... He was 2nd on the club in defensive tackles (54), special teams tackles (18) and fumble recoveries (2) ... He also added three quarterback sacks, one forced fumble and one interception return for 26 yards ... CJOB named Clark the winner of its Defensive Player of the Game Award more times than any other player for the second straight year ... winning it eight times ... Clark reached several personal milestones in 2002 including his 50th CFL game (Winnipeg vs. Hamilton, July 5, 2002) and his 50th Blue Bomber game (Winnipeg @ Calgary, Oct. 18, 2002).

2001

Voted to the CFLPA's East Division All-Star Team by the players ... was named CJOB Defensive Player of the Game award seven times ... Clark has 52 defensive tackles (3rd on Winnipeg), four tackles for a loss, two quarterback sacks, two pass knockdowns, one interception and one fumble return ... Clark placed 1st on the team and 3rd in the CFL in special teams tackles with 24.

2000

A hard worker with a fine understanding of the CFL game, Clark joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a free agent in the 2000 season.

1999

In 1999, he left Montreal to try his luck with the San Diego Chargers of the NFL ... The Chargers signed Clark as an option year exemption, only to release him after their training camp.

1998-1997

Clark spent two years in the CFL as a member of the Montreal Alouettes in 1997 and 1998 ... He played a total of 14 games for Montreal during that period, amassing 42 defensive tackles and four special teams tackles.

College

Played for Hofstra in college, Clark was a four-year starter and a two-time NCAA 1-AA All-American in 1994 and 1995 ... He had 53 tackles and nine interceptions in his junior year and 76 tackles and three interceptions in his senior season ... He was named to the East Coast Athletic Conference All-Star Team in 1995.
