BOISE, Idaho (April 13, 2007) - Without NBA Development League MVP Randy Livingston, due to a call-up to the Seattle SuperSonics, the Idaho Stampede built a 17 point lead after the first quarter on their way to a 103-77 win over the Tulsa 66ers at Qwest Arena in Boise.
"I like it when guys show effort," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "For example, having guys with more rebounds and more assists than points."
Idaho jumped out to an early 10-2 lead on a Lance Allred jumper, then extended their lead to 29-12 at the end of the first quarter. Tulsa shot just 24% from the field, while the Stampede shot 58% in the quarter. Lance Allred scored 17 of his game-high 27 points in the first period.
The Stampede went on a 20-5 run to start the second quarter, while extending their lead to 32 with 5:25 left in the half. Idaho finished ahead at the half 54-37.
Idaho shot 49% and never trailed, while Tulsa shot 33% from the field for the game.
Led by Allred, who also finished with nine rebounds, Idaho had six players in double figures. Eddie Robinson finished the game scoring 16 points, while Ronell Taylor had 12 points. Idaho's bench also contributed, John Gilchrist had 14 points, newcomer Dalron Johnson scored 11 points and had seven rebounds and DeSean Hadley added 10 points. In each of their first starts of the season, Tim Barnes dished out eight assists, and Badou Gaye grabbed 10 rebounds.
Tulsa was led by Desmon Farmer's 26 points, while Jeff Varem had a double double with 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench. Cezary Trybanski finished with 10 points for the 66ers.
Idaho made 25 of 30 from the free throw line, including Allred shooting 11 for 13.
The win ties Idaho with the Dakota Wizards for a league-best record of 32-17. Western Division champion Idaho finishes the regular season tomorrow night at home against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The Stampede has a bye in the first round, and play at home in the second round of the playoffs on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. Tulsa finishes the season with a 23-27 record, falling short of reaching the playoffs in the Eastern Division.
