
Dakota Routs Austin, Clinches Top Seed In Eastern Division

AUSTIN, Texas - Darius Rice scored 32 points as the Dakota Wizards clinched the top seed in the Eastern Division and a first round bye in the NBA D-League Playoffs with a dominating 125-92 victory over the Austin Toros on Friday night at the Austin Convention Center. Seven players scored in double figures for the Wizards who shot 53 percent from the field.
The Wizards blew open the game in the second quarter behind 81 percent shooting in the period and 11 points by Darius Rice. Austin would cut the Wizards advantage to 46-36 following Justin Bowen's layup with 6:27 remaining but Dakota would answer the Toros with a 21-14 run to close the quarter. Rice's perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field in the period helped Dakota lead 65-50 at half.
Dakota outscored Austin 31-18 in the third quarter and cruised the rest of the game - leading by as many as 39 in the fourth quarter. With the victory over the Toros, Dakota improved to 32-17 on the season.
Austin was led in scoring by Brock Gillespie's 21 points, who was 5-of-11 from behind the 3-point line. Jamar Smith scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Cheyne Gadson had a double-double with a team high 10 assists 10 points. Anthony Fuqua collected a team high 12 points and scored six points in 28 minutes of play.
The Toros (21-28) will meet the Dakota Wizards tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in the last game of the regular season for both teams.
