Idaho Stampede News Release
BOISE, Idaho (February 2, 2007) - In a tale of two halves, the Los Angeles D-Fenders upended the Idaho Stampede 94-83 at Qwest Arena in Boise, ID.
The D-Fenders outscored the Stampede 49-29 in the second half to overtake a 14-point lead by Idaho in the third quarter. Idaho committed 14 turnovers in the second half to Los Angeles' four, contributing to the downfall. The Stampede had only committed five turnovers to L.A.'s 11 in the first half.
Los Angeles had six players with double figure scoring, led by Andre Emmett's 16 points off the bench. Sean Banks had 15 points, Brian Chase added 14, and Andre Patterson had 12 points, while Aloysius Anagonye and Wesley Wilson each contributed 10 points.
Peter Ramos shot 8-for-8 from the floor, and finished with a game-high 17 points for Idaho. Ronell Taylor had 13 points, Jeff Graves added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Randy Livingston had 11 points and 8 assists.
When the third quarter began, Idaho looked to continue a strong first half by pushing their lead to 61-47 with nine minutes left on a Taylor lay-up. Ramos, who was having a strong game, committed his fifth foul putting him on the bench, and the momentum swung over to the D-Fenders.
"We were up by 14 points, and then we got really selfish and did not play together as a team," said Idaho's head coach Bryan Gates.
Los Angeles went on a tear towards the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters, going on a 10-0 run to gain a 71-70 lead. Then with 4:47 left in the game, Chase scored on a lay-up that sparked another 9-0 run by the D-Fenders that put them up by 13 with less then two minutes remaining.
Idaho started the game strong, shooting out to an early six-point lead. The Stampede were able to extend that lead to nine points towards the end of the first quarter, before two lay-ups by Jackie Manuel and Emmett, plus a free throw by Emmett cut the lead to four to end the quarter.
As the first half wore on, Idaho looked in control of the game as they pushed the lead to 13 on a Tim Barnes lay-up with 2:14 to go in the second quarter. The Stampede walked into the locker room at halftime with a nine-point advantage.
