Bucks Assign Markota to Tulsa 66ers
February 2, 2007 - NBA G League (G League)
Tulsa 66ers News Release
MILWAUKEE, Wisc., Feb. 2, 2007 -Milwaukee Bucks General Manager Larry Harris announced today that the team has assigned rookie forward Damir Markota to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League. Tulsa is led by Head Coach Joey Meyer and has served as the Bucks D-League affiliate since the 2005-06 season.
"Damir is a young player who will get the opportunity to play and further develop his skills in Tulsa," said Harris. "Last year, Ersan Ilyasova made significant progress in Tulsa and we think Damir will benefit as well. Being assigned to the Development League will give Damir invaluable time on the court under game conditions that he wouldn't necessarily receive in Milwaukee."
Markota, 21, was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 59th overall pick in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft. The Bucks acquired his draft rights from the Spurs on June 28, 2006, for the better of the Milwaukee's two second round draft picks in the upcoming 2007 NBA Draft. The 6-10, 225, native of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, has appeared in 20 games for Milwaukee this season and has averaged 1.4 points in 3.8 minutes per game.
The 17th NBA player assigned to a D-League affiliate this season, Markota is the second player assigned to Tulsa this season. Marcus Vinicius of the Hornets was assigned earlier this season, but injured an Achilles in his first game with the 66ers. Twenty-five (25) NBA teams have taken advantage of the system to assign 42 players to D-League affiliates since the start of the 2005-06 season.
