Idaho Stampede News Release
BOISE, Idaho, March 31, 2010 - Andre Barrett led the Idaho Stampede as they defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers with an all-time team and D-League high 165 points to the Vipers 153.
The Vipers are no stranger to record breaking games as just last night they played the Flash in Orem, where Utah broke the NBA D-League season high record points with 143.
Both teams came out strong from the starting tip. Rio Grande Valley shot 63.3% from the field in the first half, giving them 84 points heading to the locker room, which tied the D-League record for most points in one half. Idaho wasn't far behind with 79 points and both teams had four players apiece already in double-digit figures.
Although the Stampede fought hard and outscored the Vipers in the second half, they found themselves down by three with 12 seconds on the clock in the forth quarter. Idaho's Andre Barrett found an open Mildon Ambres who shot a three point shot to tie the game with just three seconds left in the contest. As the home crowd went crazy the Vipers were unable to make a basket and the game went into overtime.
It was all Idaho for the remaining five minutes as the Stampede outscored the Vipers 19-7 securing the win in a record breaking game. The 165 points was an all-time record high for the Stampede as well as the NBA D-League. The previous Stampede record was 151 in 2004 against Yakima. Stampede Head Coach Bob MacKinnon broke his own record and the NBA Development League record of 155 points last season when he was with the Colorado 14ers.
"I told our guys it was going to be a high scoring game," said Stampede Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. "I am proud of how we played together as a team and it was an exciting game to watch."
The Stampede finished the game with a season high five players earning double-doubles. Barrett led the pack scoring a game and season high of 42 points and 11 assists, Donell Taylor with a season high 34 points and 13 rebounds, Ambres also with a season high 32 points and 12 rebounds, Coby Karl with 27 points and 12 rebounds, and Joe Dabbert with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Idaho stays home to finish out the season battling the Los Angeles D-Fenders this Friday and Saturday night. Tipoff for both games is at 7:00 PM.
