Tulsa's Mustafa Shakur Signs With Oklahoma City Thunder

NEW YORK, March 31, 2010 - The Oklahoma City Thunder today re-signed Mustafa Shakur of the Tulsa 66ers. Shakur's GATORADE Call-Up is the 31st of the 2009-10 NBA D-League season and the second for him this year. He joins 76 other NBA players with NBA D-League experience.

Shakur rejoins the Thunder following a GATORADE Call-Up to the team on March 16, before being released on March 25, and returning to the 66ers.

A 6-3, 190-pound guard, Shakur has appeared in 43 games, all starts, for the 66ers this season, averaging 20.4 points, 7.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 39.0 minutes. He has scored in double figures in all 43 games, recording a season-high 34 points in a 106-96 home victory over the Dakota Wizards on March 5. He dished out a season-high 14 assists on Jan. 28, in a 107-104 loss to the Iowa Energy in Tulsa.

In the 2010 NBA D-League All-Star Game, Shakur scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists in 21 minutes, leading the West team to a 98-81 victory over the East in Dallas last month.

Selected with the first pick in the second round of the 2009 NBA D-League Draft by the 66ers, Shakur spent preseason stints with the Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks in 2007 and 2009, respectively. He has also appeared in NBA Summer Leagues with Sacramento and the Charlotte Bobcats.

A four-year contributor at Arizona, Shakur averaged 11.9 points, 6.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 31 games during his senior season, when he earned All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention accolades. During his collegiate career, he was also named to the Pac 10 All-Freshman Team in 2004, and played in the NCAA Elite 8 in 2005.

Shakur is expected to join the Thunder today and be in available tonight when the team takes on the Boston Celtics in Massachusetts.
