Austin, TX March 31, 2010- The Tulsa 66ers came from behind to beat the Toros at the Austin Convention Center, 109-104. With a game advantage on the Reno Bighorns for the eighth seed, the Tulsa 66ers traveled to Austin for what could be a D-League Playoffs preview.
The Toros, hoping to keep their six-game win streak alive, jumped ahead 14-8 after Eddie Basden started a 10-0 run in their favor. During the run the Toros stole the lead and held on to it for the majority of the game. Marcus Williams' jumper at the buzzer extended the Toros lead, 30-16.
Eric Dawson's bucket with :37 left in the first half gave the Toros their largest lead of the half, 57-39. Deron Washington's long basket closed the Toros lead at the half, 57-42. Tulsa's free throws were limited in the first half (4-6) while the Toros were able to visit the line 14 times. Williams' led all at the half with 14 points.
The 66ers were able to come within ten in the fourth quarter, after a 14-3 run behind Latavious Williams' eight points during the 4:22 span. Both teams exchanged a few baskets before Tulsa went on another run, 13-3, this time putting them within one point with 1:00 remaining in the game. Moses Ehambe was clutch and gave Tulsa its first lead since the first quarter after a jumper from the baseline with :30 left, 106-104.
adidas player of the game Marcus Williams put up 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Toros.
Five other Toros players scored in double figures: Jones (19), Squeaky Johnson (15), Michael Joiner (14), Basden (14), and Jerrells (10). Jones led all with 15 rebounds.
Ehambe led Tulsa with a season high 29 points off the bench (8-11 from the three point line). Latavious Williams, also off the bench, added 14 points. Mustafa Shakur, who was signed and then assigned back to the 66ers from the Oklahoma City Thunder early today, was limited to eight points for the evening.
The Toros (30-17) will take a day off before hosting Utah in back-to-back games. Friday and Saturday's games are set for 7:30 CST. Tulsa (26-21) will head back home for a two-game series against Iowa on Friday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 CDT.
