Idaho Stampede News Release

(Boise, Idaho) - The Idaho Stampede have partnered with St. Luke's Medical Center to create a program that will lend an assist to kids in the Treasure Valley, by encouraging them to "Get Fit!".

The "Stampede Basketball Get Fit! with St. Luke's" program is designed to utilize professional basketball as a vehicle to instill the importance of proper nutrition and exercise in the lives of today's youth and their families. The program will recognize children that attend the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Treasure Valley who are working toward leading a healthy lifestyle by making sound choices in nutrition and fitness.

"We are proud to partner with a professional sports franchise like the Stampede to encourage kids throughout the Treasure Valley to make healthy choices with their nutrition and fitness", said Beth Toal, spokesperson for St. Luke's.

Prizes will be awarded to children based on the number of items that are met in each of the two sets of criteria: 1. Eating Better and 2. Being Active.

Some examples of the exclusive prizes with this program include a chance to learn from Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates and players at a basketball clinic, a chance to earn a spot on the Boys & Girls Club basketball team that will compete on the Stampede court, take part in the Micron High 5 tunnel and high five future NBA stars, free t-shirts and tickets to the Stampede regular season final game on Saturday, April 14.

"We are very excited to work with St. Luke's and the Idaho Stampede to offer our kids the opportunity to Get Fit and focus on health this month. We're really hoping that the healthy skills they learn this month will become life long healthy habits", said Macey Snelson, Program Director, Meridian Unit.

The program will run during the month of March and children will need to demonstrate specific lifestyle choices in order to be nominated by their parents/guardians, or employees of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Treasure Valley. The choices can range from eating five servings of fruits or vegetables per day, taking the dog for a walk to drinking juice or water instead of soda.

"Stampede Basketball Get Fit! with St. Luke's" award winners are chosen by a Stampede selection committee, which is a combination of Stampede Players, Coaches and Front Office Staff. All kids that attend Treasure Valley Boys & Girls Clubs are eligible. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 30, 2007. For any questions about the "Stampede Basketball Get Fit! with St. Luke's" program, please call the Stampede front office at (208) 388-4667.
