
St. Cloud Rox Open 2013 Season on the Road

Waterloo, Iowa - The St. Cloud Rox opened the 2013 season on the road as they traveled to Waterloo, Iowa to take on the Waterloo Bucks. The teams were to kick-off the season Wednesday but were unfortunately rained out so played two, seven inning games Thursday.
St. Cloud split the series with Waterloo falling in game one 9-2 and prevailing 12-2 in game two.
In game one the Rox took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Daniel Comstock (Fr., Menlo College) singled to right field with two outs on the board scoring Chris Paul (So., Cal-Berkeley). The Bucks were able to tie the game up 1-1 by the end of the first inning.
The Rox' Garrett Fischer (R-Jr., St. Cloud State) led off in the second earning the walk to take first base. Fischer then advanced to third as Tyler Wolfe (Fr., DMACC) was up to bat and took second off an error by the second baseman. Eric Loxtercamp (R-So., St. Cloud State) flied out to second scoring Fischer for a 2-1 lead over Waterloo near the end of the second.
St. Cloud was unable to hold on as Waterloo tied the game up 2-2 in the bottom of the second and then extended their lead scoring five runs in the third and two more in the sixth inning for a 9-2 final score.
Making his debut on the mound for the Rox was Daniel Martinez (Fr., Univ. of New Orleans) pitching 2.2 innings and relieved by Kasey Ralston (Fr., Indiana University) and Reese Gregory (Fr., St. Cloud State).
In game two scoring did not come until the top of the second inning as St. Cloud took a 2-0 lead over Waterloo. The Rox' were able to put another two runs on the board in the third inning taking a 4-0 lead into the fourth.
The Bucks were able to score one run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 4-1 game but the Rox continued to extend their lead in the top of the fifth for a 6-1 lead. Waterloo posted another run in the bottom of the fifth but was unable to hold on as the St. Cloud batted in six runs for a 12-2 final.
Charlie Morgan (Jr., Wake Forest) was a big hitter for the Rox in game two going 3-for-5 including two doubles, two runs and tallied three RBIs. Eric Loxtercamp also hit big going 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs while Carlos Leal went 2-for-4 including one double and two runs.
Starting on the mound for the Rox was Kyle Davis (R-Jr., Colorado Mesa University) recording his first win of the season pitching five strikeouts and only allowed two runs in 6.0 innings of work. Tyler Wolfe relieved Davis to close out the Rox first win of the season.
The Rox (1-1, 1-1 North) will be back in action Friday, May 31st as they host the Thunder Bay Border Cats for their home opener. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. with former Minnesota Twins' infielder Greg Gagne to throw out the first pitch and an outstanding postgame firework show all presented by Coborn's.
