St. Cloud Rox Hit Big to Split Series at Mankato, 12-7

Mankato, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Mankato MoonDogs were back in action Friday night for their final game of the series. The Rox would get the split as they defeated the MoonDogs by a final score of 12-7.

The MoonDogs started the game off posting a 2-0 lead over the Rox off a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning at Franklin Rogers Park.

Mankato would extend their lead over the Rox in the bottom of the second with a double to center field scoring three runs for a 5-0 lead over St. Cloud.

In the fourth inning it was the Rox getting the bats going as Charlie Morgan and Blake Headley both hit doubles to center field. With runners on second and third it was Daniel Comstock hitting a double to right field scoring Morgan and Headley making it a 5-2 game. Conor Keniry then singled to be followed by Devin Pearson earning a walk to load the bases. With no outs on the board Vincent Jackson posted a single to bringing the Rox within two of the MoonDogs for a 5-3 game. The Rox ended the fourth with three runs on five hits.

The MoonDogs would take the game to a 6-3 lead over the Rox in the bottom of the fourth posting a run on a double to right field after Josh Fuentes tripled to right field.

With a pitching change for the MoonDogs in the top of the fifth, it was Rox' Charlie Morgan posting a double to center field to get the bats going. With two outs on the board for the Rox Comstock would single to right field scoring Morgan for a 6-4 game.

Mankato posted another run in the bottom of the fifth to continue to stay ahead of the Rox 7-4.

The Rox showed great tenacity in the top of the sixth as Pearson hit a lead off single to left field and was brought home as Vincent Jackson hit a two-run home run. Chris Paul tripled to right field to then score off a single by Tim Colwell tying the game up 7-7. Colwell would move to third as Adam Martin doubled to right field before the MoonDogs could have a pitching change. Morgan would show up big again for the Rox two-run double to center field, moving the Rox into their first lead of the night by a score of 9-7.

The game was delayed for 25 minutes due to rain but when play resumed, St. Cloud extended their lead to 12-7 in the top of the eighth. Martin would double to score one run and a triple by Headley would bring home two runs closing out the inning with three runs on three hits.

The Rox would make the defensive plays to hold the MoonDogs at seven to split the series on the road.

Kyle Fischer would earn the start for the Rox as well as the win in 5.0 innings of work and moved his record to 3-2 on the season. John Oltman and Reese Gregory both saw action on the mound pitching 2.0 innings each.

The St. Cloud Rox (13-17, 13-17 North) will be back in action in the comforts of Joe Faber Field Saturday as they welcome the Duluth Huskies for a three game series. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.

Saturday, June 29 at the ballpark it will be a Rox Can Koozie Giveaway to the first 250 fans presented by Franklin Outdoor Advertising as well as an awesome post-game fireworks show. Just like every Saturday Rox home game it will be "Ultimate Saturdays," where you bring your ticket to the Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill after the game and receive a buy one, get one free drink of your choice (only redeemable the night of the game).

Sunday, June 30 will be a Rox Baseball Bat Giveaway presented by the St. Cloud Hospital Stroke Center. The first 300 kids 14 and under will receive a 28" wood baseball bat. Coborn's Kids' Day will also be going on as kids have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m.

The Rox final home game of the series will be on Monday, July 1 and it will be a Rox School Folder Giveaway presented by Rengel Printing. First 250 kids 12 and under will get a Rox folder for their upcoming school year. It is also "Military Mondays" presented by Regional Diagnostic Radiology. Active military members or veterans with a valid ID or military discharge papers receive a half priced reserved ticket at all Monday home Rox games (available day of game only). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
