Battle Creek, Mich - The Battle Creek Bombers (13-17) ended their six game losing streak and defeated the Madison Mallards (18-11) for the first time this year, 4-1.

Hunter Devall (W 1-2) battled for 5 strong innings giving up the lone run and striking out 5. He was relieved by Caleb Vincent and Brian Heldman before Kellen Urbon (S 1) made his Bombers debut picking up the save.

The Bombers offense was quiet for the first few innings before plating two runs in the 5th. Tyler Moore and Greg Velazquez walked to start and would later score on an A.J. Kennedy RBI single. That provided Battle Creek with a 2-1 lead which they took to the 8th inning. The Bombers looked to add insurance before the 9th inning and following a Cam Gibson double and Joe Serrano single, Matthew Fears hit a deep drive to straight away center field with the outfielders playing in. That double plated both Serrano and Gibson as Fears picked up his team leading 21st RBI. Reilly Hovis (L 0-1) went four and a third giving up two runs while striking out 7 and walking 3 for Madison.

These two teams will be back at it tomorrow for the middle game of the series with Mike Mancuso (1-0) scheduled to start. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.

The Battle Creek Bombers are members of the Northwoods League that has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other summer collegiate baseball league in America. For information on tickets call (269) 962-0735 or visit BattleCreekBombers.com.
