(Rochester, MN) - Tyler Eppler (Sam Houston State) held the Willmar Stingers to just two hits in a 5-0 win for the Rochester Honkers on Saturday June 29 at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar, MN.

Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State) and Tyler Baker (Wichita State) each singled with one out in the top of the first inning. Alex Greer (Iowa Western) drew a walk to load the bases for Michael Pomeroy (Grand Canyon University,) who singled to score Burgess and give the Honkers an early 1-0 lead.

The run was enough of a lead for Eppler as he held the Stingers without a hit for 5.2 innings. After issuing a two-out walk to Chris Barnett, Eppler surrendered his first hit to Danny Brennan, but Brennan was thrown out at second base by Greer as he attempted to stretch his hit into a double.

Marc Flores singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Logan Moon reached on an error to put runners on the corners with just one out. Eppler responded by getting Nick Halamandaris to ground into a double play to end the inning and preserve the one-run lead.

Greer singled to start the eighth inning, Pomeroy followed with a walk, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch to give Rochester a threat. Greer scored on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Barker (UC Davis) to give the Honkers a late insurance run and increase the lead to 2-0. A double from Burgess fueled a three-run ninth inning to give Rochester a five-run lead. Burgess led the Honkers offense by going 3-for-5 with a double, a RBI, and two runs scored. Pomeroy went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Eppler allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings to earn the win (2-1.) Colin Poche took the loss (2-1) for Willmar as he allowed one run on seven hits in six innings. Seth Fuller (Black Hawk College) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his second save of the season.

The two teams have two games remaining in Willmar to finish up an eight-game road trip before the Honkers return home to Mayo Field to host the St. Cloud Rox on Tuesday July 2. Logan Spitzack (St. Cloud State) is slated to start for Rochester (17-14,) while Max Homick (San Diego) is scheduled to start for Willmar (19-11) on Sunday June 30 at 7:05 p.m.
