St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Alexandria Blue Anchors rounded out their series together at Joe Faber Field Saturday night with the Rox prevailing by a final score of 4-3.
After the Blue Anchors went three up and three down in the top of the first the Rox came out and after a groundout to lead off the inning they earned three straight walks to load the bases. Daniel Comstock was then up to bat scoring Devin Pearson on a sacrifice fly to right field. Alex McRae then recorded a single to score Adam Martin taking the Rox to a 2-0 lead.
Alexandria would answer in the top of the second putting up one run on two hits to trail the Rox 2-1. The Blue Anchors held the Rox to three up and three down in the bottom half of the inning to then tie the game up 2-2 in the third off a single.
The top of the fourth the Blue Anchors would take their first lead of the game as Tyler Curtis hit a triple scoring their runner on first for a 3-2 lead over the Rox.
St. Cloud was not going to lay down as Dustin Breshears reached on a walk and advanced to second was Eric Loxtercamp reached first on a sacrifice hit with an error by the pitcher. A single by Blake Headley loaded the bases for the Rox and with a single by Pearson St. Cloud would tie the game up 3-3.
It was not until the bottom of the sixth when a huge triple by Loxtercamp got the bats going for St. Cloud. Headley would follow with one out on the board hitting a single to take the Rox to a 4-3 lead over Alexandria.
The Rox held the Blue Anchors to no hits until they gave up two in the top of the ninth. Alexandria found themselves with the bases loaded and one out but a line right to Rox' shortstop Dustin Breshears would turn into a game ending double play.
Starting on the mound for the Rox tonight was Lucas Long as he pitched six innings and earned the win to move his record to 4-0 on the season. Also seeing action was John Oltman for one inning and coming into close the game was Reese Gregory. Gregory pitched two innings to earn the save, which is his fourth of the season.
The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Blake Headley. Headley went 2-for-4 including an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to take the Rox to a 4-3 lead and was ultimately the winning run.
The St. Cloud Rox (27-29, 13-8 Second Half) will be back in action Sunday as they start a four game road stint in Wisconsin Rapids taking on the Rafters. Game time Sunday is slated for 5:05 p.m.
