Blue Anchors Fall to Rox 4-3

St. Cloud, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the St. Cloud Rox by a score of 4-3 Saturday night at Joe Faber Field. In the second half, Alexandria is now 9-12 and 19-36 overall.

The Rox jumped on Chase Rihtarchik early as three straight one-out walks loaded the bases for Daniel Comstock who hit a sacrifice fly to score Devin Pearson for the first run. Then a a single by Alex McRae plated Adam Martin to put the Anchors in a 2-0 hole.

In the top of the second the Blue Anchors started to chip away. Ryan Blanchard hit a single with one out and moved to second on an error by the center fielder. He moved to third on a Tim Cusick ground ball and Kris Goodman hit a single scoring Blanchard to make the score 2-1.

Another two-out hit tied the game for Alexandria in the third. Keegan Dale singled into left moved to second on an error by the shortstop. This time Albert Baur delivered the blow and Dale scored to knot the score at two.

The Blue Anchors offense continued to strike with two outs in the fourth against Lucas Long. Aaron Gretz started this rally and scored all the way from first on a triple by Tyler Curtis giving Alexandria their first lead, 3-2.

St. Cloud didn't let the lead last long as they responded in the bottom of the fourth. Dustin Breshears walked and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Eric Loxtercamp, who also reached on a throwing error by Rihtarchik. A single by Blake Headley loaded the bases with nobody out. Then with one-out a single by Pearson scored Breshears to tie the game at three.

Andy Johnson came in relief to pitch the fifth for the Blue Anchors and in the sixth, he ran into trouble. Loxtercamp hit a fly ball triple off the right-field foul line with one out and then came around to score the winning run on a single by Headley into centerfield.

Making his final start of the season, the All-Star pitcher Rihtarchik pitched four innings allowing three runs on four hits and a walk with one strikeout. Johnson (1-3) received the loss going two innings allowing one run on four hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Ross Slaney came into pitch the seventh and eighth and allowed just three hits.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Tyler Curtis (3B) - The Triton College infielder had two hits in Saturday's ballgame and one of those was a triple to put give the Anchors a brief lead.
