Johnson walked both Brad Boyer and Thomas Neal before Brandon Belt crunched a three-run home run to right-center field. Belt's ninth blast of the season put Richmond out in front, 3-0.

The Squirrels added a pair of runs and chased Johnson in the fourth inning. Ryan Lormand sparked the rally with a one-out single and Nick Noonan singled behind him. Conor Gillaspie double off Tanaka to open the fifth inning as the Squirrels added to their lead. Sharlon Schoop singled behind him, and Clay Timpner made it 6-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Things unraveled for Squirrels' right-hander Craig Westcott in the bottom of the fifth inning. After allowing the first two batters of the ballgame to reach, he had retired 12 men in a row into the fifth. However, Tyler Henson led off the fifth with a single and Westcott walked Caleb Joseph. Greg Miclat singled to load the bases and Westcott walked in Bowie's first run with a free pass to Jonathan Tucker. Xavier Avery followed with a two-run double and Westcott's night was abruptly over with the Squirrels in front 6-3. Daryl Maday entered in relief and allowed a single to Carlos Rojas to load the bases back up. He then walked Ryan Adams to force in another run as Bowie pulled within two runs, 6-4.

Westcott was charged will all four runs in the fifth, and called it a night after four-plus innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Neal ripped a solo-home run to left-center field off of right-hander Jim Johnson in the sixth that stretched the Squirrels lead back out to 7-4. However, the Baysox posted a pair of runs against Maday in the bottom of the inning to pull within a run, 7-6.

They would get no closer, as left-hander David Quinowski (2-0) righted the ship with two scoreless innings of relief. He earned the win for his efforts. Right-hander Rafael Cova worked a perfect ninth for his league-leading 21st save of the season.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for 6:05 PM on Sunday night at Prince George's Stadium. RHP Felix Romero (3-2, 3.62) will make the start for Richmond against LHP Pedro Viola (3-2, 3.51) for Bowie.
