Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Bowie, Md. - Richmond (28-24) scored three runs in the first to start the game and three more runs in the ninth inning to finish off the game in a 6-2 win over the Baysox (29-25) Friday evening. In the middle seven innings, the Flying Squirrels managed just two hits, but the Baysox could never catch up.
Baysox starting pitcher Tyler Wilson tied the Baysox season-high for longest outing for a pitcher, throwing eight innings in the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking four. He did not surrender a hit after the third inning.
Richmond struck quickly in the top of the first inning against Wilson. Matt Duffy hit a one out single to right field and Wilson's college teammate at UVA, Jarrett Parker, followed with a two-run homer to center field. Mario Lisson drew a walk and moved to third base on a double to center field by Angel Villalona before leaving the game with an injury and being replaced by Myles Schroder. Schroder scored on a Ricky Oropesa groundout to give the Flying Squirrels a 3-0 lead.
The Baysox got a run back in the bottom of the second inning against Richmond starter Jack Snodgrass. Michael Ohlman drew a lead off walk and moved to second base on a one-out single to center field from Garabez Rosa. David Freitas brought Ohlman home with a single to center field to make the score 3-1.
Bowie tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dariel Alvarez hit a lead off single to left field and moved to second base on a Ronald Bermudez groundout. Michael Ohlman then brought Alvarez home with a single to center field to make the score 3-2.
The Flying Squirrels added some insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning against Baysox reliever Jason Gurka. Oropesa hit a lead off double to center field and Devin Harris then walked. Eliezer Zambrano advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt and Skyler Stromsmoe brought them both home with a triple to center field. Stromsmoe scored on a two-out Duffy single to right field to give Richmond a 6-2 lead.
Gurka pitched the ninth inning and allowed three runs on four hits while walking one batter.
Snodgrass picked up the win for Richmond, pitching five and one-third innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three and walking three.
LHP Tim Berry (3-2, 4.15) takes the mound for the Baysox Saturday as the team plays the second game in a three game home series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He will be opposed by RHP Austin Fleet (3-1, 3.63).
