Reading Fightin Phils News Release


The Fightin Phils fell victim to a big fourth inning by Erie as they scored seven runs to take a 7-1 lead. Reading made an attempt at a comeback but would lose 7-4 as they dropped to 29-23 on the season. Ryan Demmin (1-1) suffered his first loss on the season.

Everett Williams hit a RBI groundout off SeaWolves starter Tommy Collier in the top of the first inning to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. Ryan Demmin retired eight of ten SeaWolves to begin the game before being chased out of the game through 3 2/3 innings. Demmin allowed seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Erie took a 7-2 lead.

The Fightin scored another run off Collier in the top of the fifth inning as Aaron Altherr hit a RBI single to score Anthony Phillips to cut Erie's lead to 7-2. Carlos Alonso hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning off SeaWolves reliever Kenny Faulk to bring the Fightins within three runs, 7-4.

Colton Murray pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings while Austin Wright tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

The Fightin Phils and Erie SeaWolves will play on Saturday at 7:05 pm from Jerry Uht Park. Jesse Biddle (3-4, 3.18 ERA) will be making the start for the Reading Fightin Phils.
