Trenton Thunder News Release

The Trenton Thunder loaded the bases in the ninth inning against Portland Sea Dogs reliever Robby Scott, but Gary Sanchez grounded into a fielder's choice in a 4-3 loss to begin the four-game series.

With two outs and the bases empty the Thunder used singles by Taylor Dugas and Ben Gamel and a walk to Tyler Austin to set the stage for late inning dramatics, but couldn't get the final hit or run to pull even with Portland.

Offensively, the Thunder used yet another home run from Peter O'Brien. It was his 10th in 20 games since being promoted from High-A Tampa, and his 20th of the season overall to lead all of Minor League Baseball. O'Brien also walked once in the game to finish 1-for-3. Rob Refsnyder and Gamel were the lone Thunder players with multi-hit games, as they connected on four of the eight Thunder hits, including a pair of doubles from Refsnyder.

Starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell went 3.1 innings in his fourth start since returning from the Disabled List and allowed three runs. He entered the ballgame at 1-3 on the season and collected a no-decision before passing the ball off to Manny Barreda. Barreda went 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and tossed a season-high 60 pitches.

The Thunder continue their four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs Saturday with a split double-header. The first of the two seven-inning ballgames is at 2:05 p.m. with the nightcap at 7:05 followed by post-game fireworks. Pre-game shows beginning at 1:50 p.m. and 6:50 p.m. can be found on 91.3 FM and www.trentonthunder.com.
