Spokane Drops Salem-Keizer in 11

The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes fell to the Spokane Indians on Friday night by a final score of 5-3 in 11 innings. Spokane catcher Tyler Sanchez hit game tying and winning home runs in the ninth and 11th innings.

Indians reliever Jeffery Springs (2-1, 2.81 ERA) picked up the win after four inning of scoreless work. Jarret Leverett (0-3, 4.94 ERA) got the loss after Spokane's Tyler Sanchez hit a two-run walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

It was Sanchez's second home run of the night that would lift Spokane to victory. The Indians catcher also hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game. Volcanoes' closer Caleb Smith had worked through two outs in the ninth before Sanchez tied the game.

Sanchez is no stranger to clutch situations as the 2015 17th-round pick has hit five home runs this season, all of them coming in the ninth inning or later. Additionally, 13 of his 17 RBI have come in the ninth inning or later.

The Volcanoes scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to put them ahead 3-1. But the Indians would come back to score in the seventh and ninth to tie the game.

Logan Webb recorded another strong outing Friday night completing five innings of one-run baseball. The 18-year-old struck out three batters and allowed only four hits.

Spokane's starter, Joe Palumbo, had great command of his curveball in his eighth start of the season. The left-hander struck out five Volcano batters but would leave the game with the Indians trailing.

Luis Pino (3-0, 0.43 ERA) will start for the Volcanoes tomorrow. It will be Pino's second start this season. He will face the Indian's Blake Bass (1-3, 5.23 ERA), the Indians right-hander is currently riding a two game losing streak but has a 1-0 record in three starts. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
