Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters (7-6) improve to a winning record for the first time since being 1-0 on opening day, beating the Rockford Rivets (7-6) 7-1 on Sunday.

Evan Orzech gave his team the lead with a two-out RBI single in the third. That one run is all starter Aren Gustafson would need.

Gustafson (2-0, 0.95 ERA) pitched almost an exact replica of his last start against Kalamazoo. The lefty went seven innings without allowing a run, surrendering just four hits, and striking out a season-high six. He's in the midst of a 17-inning scoreless streak.

The offense exploded in the seventh inning. They tallied four hits and five walks, breaking out for a 7-0 lead. Colin Summerhill had the only RBI hit, scoring two with a two-out single.

The bullpen surrendered one in the eighth, but stranded the bases loaded in the ninth to secure the win.

Marshall Toole led the way with three hits and three stolen bases. Christian Beal added two hits and two stolen bases. He and Toole had the only multi-hit game as well as multi-steal game.
