Chinooks Shutout by the Rockers, Lose 7-0
June 12, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
Mequon, Wisconsin - On a cool Sunday in the middle of June, the Lakeshore Chinooks were not able to continue their two-game winning streak. It was a tough game to follow up after their first sweep of the season against Fond du Lac. The Chinooks bats were cold all game against the Green Bay Rockers starting pitcher Dylan Carter. The Arkansas Razorbacks pitcher cruised through the Chinooks lineup with a complete game shutout. Carter dealt with some traffic on the bases in the first two innings as the Chinooks left 3 runners on base, but they weren't able to capitalize on any scoring opportunity.
Heading into today's game with an astounding 0.75 ERA, Carter continued to lower the ERA to 0.43 after an amazing start. The mix of a high 80s to low 90s fastball and an impressive breaking ball had the Chinooks offense bewildered all day. Carter's stuff was unhittable for a stretch as he retired 13 straight batters. His final stat line was 9 innings pitched, 5 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts. The Rockers standing in last place of the Great Lakes West division were desperate for a win to end their three-game losing streak. Carter pitched like the Rockers ace that they needed.
Caleb Strack was the Chinooks starting pitcher, but continued his struggles this season as he gave up 4 earned runs, 5 walks and couldn't get out of the third inning. Colin Dailey was solid in relief to keep the Chinooks in it for most of the ball game. In 2.2 innings pitched, Dailey gave up no runs and led the pitching staff with 5 strikeouts.
The Rockers offense was led by Tristin Garcia and Nainoa Cardinez who each had 2 hits. Cardinez also reached on base with a walk and delivered 2 key RBIs to give the Rockers a big advantage in today's game. Matt Deprey was the only Chinooks hitter to get 2 hits off of Carter as he continued to look like an all-star for the Chinooks so far this season. Through his 9 games played, Deprey leads the Chinooks with a .412 batting average and has 1 home run with 8 RBIs. In the Northwood League batting average leaders list, Deprey is in 4th place as he will continue to showcase his offensive skills in the Chinooks lineup.
The Chinooks are tied with the Rockers at the bottom of the Great Lakes West division. Both teams are now 4-9 after two weeks of the Northwoods League season. The Chinooks face the Rockers again Monday night, but the final game of the series is at Green Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm at Capital Credit Union Park.
