Windsor Spitfires News Release

Brady Vail scored the winner in a shootout, as the Spits overcame a two-goal deficit late in the third period in a 3-2 victory over the Rangers in front of 7,281 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Friday. Alex Fotinos was outstanding in goal for the Spitfires, making 50 saves for his 19th win of the season.

Trailing 2-0, Vail took an Adam Bateman pass and scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway to get Windsor (37-27-3-0) on the board at 15:32 of the third period. Ben Johnson's 27th of the season evened the game up at 2-2 on the power play, with just 1:26 to play. Curtis Meighan (11) and Dmitri Sergeev (2) scored for Kitchener (22-41-2-3), which ended its season with 11 straight losses.

The win, which halted Windsor's losing streak at five games, marked the first time in 15 years that a team has won 10 or more games when trailing after 40 minutes in a single season. Fotinos was the game's first star, while Vail (1G, 1A) earned second star honours.

The Spits wrap the weekend and their regular season Saturday night with a trip to Plymouth.
