(Windsor, ON) - General Manager Warren Rychel announced today the club has acquired goaltender Garret Hughson in a deal with the Niagara IceDogs.

The 20-year-old native of Foremost, Alberta was placed on CHL waivers earlier this week and was claimed by the IceDogs. In return for his rights, the Spits have sent their 15th Round pick in 2017 to Niagara.

"We are pleased to add a goalie of Garret's caliber," Rychel said. "He gives us a ton of junior hockey experience and another solid goaltender. We felt it was important to add another veteran piece, since (Michael) DiPietro will be away at the end of the month for a few weeks (at the World Under-17 championship)."

Hughson played parts of four seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, appearing in 105 regular season and six playoff games. In 53 appearances last season, he posted 23 wins and a 2.80 goals against average, along with a .902 save percentage and two shutouts.

Hughson will arrive in North Bay later today and will wear No.30.
