Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack gained a boost to the lineup when they hosted the Guelph Storm on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and they made sure to put it to good use.

After recovering from a broken wrist suffered in August, Damir Sharipzyanov made his 2015-16 season debut and saw his physicality play a big role in the Attack's 4-1 win over the visitors.

Despite not being able to take advantage of a pair of early Baywest Nissan Powerplays, the Attack still managed to get on the board first.

Just before the tv timeout, rookie forward Nick Suzuki pounced on a loose puck in the crease and squeezed it by Guelph goalie Justin Nichols to give Owen Sound a 1-0 lead.

Jaden Lindo picked up his 6th point of the year with an assist on Suzuki's goal, which was his 3rd of the season.

Guelph would strike back though, with Marc Stevens beating Michael McNiven on a rebound.

Stevens' goal came at the 11:19 mark of the period, just 1:47 after the game's opening goal.

The Storm had a chance to seize the momentum with a powerplay of their own, but Owen Sound came up big on a late period Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill.

Led by a trio of rookies in Sean Durzi, Nick Suzuki, and Kevin Hancock, the Attack stifled the Storm and went to the intermission locked at one with their opponents.

The 2nd period began and was a prime example of how the season series has gone between the two teams.

With both sides trading powerplay chances through the frame, McNiven and Nichols continued their stellar head to head play with neither goaltender allowing a shot past them in the middle stanza.

The deadlock would be broken eventually though, and it came on a highlight reel backhander by Liam Dunda.

After taking a feed from rookie forward Greg Smith, Dunda did his best Sidney Crosby impersonation and rifled a shot from the right circle that bounced off of the far post and behind Nichols.

Smith picked up his first career OHL point on the play, while Connor Walters also nabbed an assist on the goal which came at 8:48 of the 3rd.

Owen Sound would then widen their margin just four minutes later when Nick Suzuki picked up his 2nd of the night.

Suzuki grabbed a rebound off of Santino Centorame shot and tucked it home to put Owen Sound up 3-1 before Justin Brack blew the game open on a 3 on 2 rush.

With less than a minute having elapsed after Suzuki's goal, Brack tucked home a backdoor pass from Jacob Busch to give the Attack a three goal lead.

Brack's goal would be the final tally of the game, as Owen Sound held on for the 4-1 win over their division rivals.

Damir Sharipzyanov was named the Hatten Home Hardware Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game in his return to the lineup.

Nick Suzuki was named the Mac Taylor Corporation 1st Star of the Game thanks to his two-goal performance while Liam Dunda's game winning goal earned him 2nd star.

Markus Phillips rounded out the stars of the game by being named the game's 3rd star.

The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal finished at 41-27 in favour of the Attack, as Michael McNiven made 26 saves in the winning effort.

The Attack are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Budweiser Gardens for a game against the London Knights, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30pm.

That game can be listened to live on Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio on 560 CFOS while also watched on Rogers Local 53.

The next home game for your Attack is Saturday, Oct. 24 when they play host to the Flint Firebirds.

Puckdrop is scheduled for 7:30pm and tickets are available at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-7452.
