North Shore Spirit News Release
The North Shore offense stayed hot in the second game of a double header on Friday night as they completed a sweep of the Grays with a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.
A crowd of 2185 was on hand to witness the Spirit sweep in a lengthy affair at Fraser Field. In the end, though, it was worth the wait as the Spirit offense overwhelmed the Grays in both games.
Things got off to a great start for the Spirit in Game two. With one out in the top of the first, Rob Fischer walked and stole second. Back-to-back doubles by Travis Oglesby and Josh Tranum gave the Spirit the early two run cushion.
North Shore tacked on four more in the second inning, increasing their lead to six runs. Davilla came through with the biggest hit of the inning, a three-run double that scored Agramonte, Weir and Fischer. Cleatus Davidson led off the inning with a double, and he accounted for the first Spirit score.
The Grays scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning. Darren Ciraco got the inning started with a double, and after a single from Charles Peterson he scored on a Davidson error.
North Shore answered with another run in the third inning. Davidson led off with a walk, and moved into scoring position on a single from Marcos Agramonte. Weir sent him home with an RBI single to once again extend the North Shore lead to six.
The Grays continued to chip away at the deficit, however, with another run in the fourth inning. Angel Valdez reached second on a two-base error and came around to score on an RBI single from Larry Best.
After Jake Mullis quieted them down for two innings, the Grays broke through with another run in the bottom of the sixth. Peterson led off with a double high off the wall in left center field, and he came around to score on an RBI double to straightaway center from Best.
That was as close as they would come in this game, however, as the Spirit swept the series opener.
The Spirit offense overshadowed a solid performance on the mound from Spirit starter Mullis. He earned the victory for Spirit while Greg Keeton suffered the loss for the Grays.
North Shore and the Grays will resume their series tomorrow night at seven at the New Fraser Field.
