The Saginaw Spirit welcomed the Sarnia Sting for the 4th time during the 2014-15 regular season and recorded their second win of the New Year against the West Division Rival, taking a 5-4-overtime victory over the Sting.

The Sarnia Sting opened the game's scoring early in the first period on a goal by Noah Bushnell. Bushnell was able to sneak the puck past Saginaw's starting goaltender Jake Paterson with the help of Alex Black and Jake O'Donnell at the 2:47 mark. The Spirit were hungry for retaliation and quickly opened the scoring for Saginaw at 4:21 after Jesse Barwell netted his fifth goal of the season and put up a tally that tied the game at one. Connor Brown took the lone assist on the play. Towards the later end of the period Sarnia's Jordan Kyrou netted a goal that pulled the Sting ahead of the Spirit 2-1. The goal came at the 14:55 mark and was assisted by Vladislav Kodola. The team headed to the locker room after 20 minutes with Sarnia leading shots on goal during the first period 19-10.

The Spirit took control of the game during the second period, outshining the Sting by putting two goals past Sarnia's starting goaltender Taylor Dupuis. The Spirit were able to get back on even terms at 5:27 of the second period after Tye Felhaber buried a beautiful unassisted wrist shot from the faceoff circle and tied the scoring at two. The game-tying goal was Felhaber's 6th goal of the season. Saginaw kept the high energy moving and finally took the 3-2 lead over Sarnia at 12:48 of the second when Jacob Ringuette fed a nice pass up the middle to Devon Paliani after a Sarnia turnover. Paliani found the back of the net on the breakaway and gained the one goal lead for the Spirit on his 4th goal of the season. Shots after the second period of play read Saginaw 12, Sarnia 9.

Saginaw's Connor Brown cushioned the Spirit lead and put up his 15th goal of the season 12 seconds into the third period. Brown made it a 4-2 game with assists being credited to Artem Artemov and Greg Di Tomaso. The Sting turned on some offensive pressure and were quick to cut into the Spirit lead with Noah Bushnell burying his second goal of the night at 3:43 of the period. Anthony DeAngelo and Kevin Spinozzi assisted the play. Sarnia kept the pressure coming on the Spirit's defensemen and goaltender Jake Paterson and eventually tied the game 4-4 on a goal by Troy Lajeunesse at the 7:39 mark. Assists on the play went to Anthony DeAngelo and Jordan Kyrou. Saginaw and Sarnia saw a deadlock until the final buzzer of regulation play sounded and the teams moved to 4-on-4 hockey in 5 minutes of overtime play.

Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy netted the game winning goal 2:57 seconds into overtime, recording his 24th goal of the season. Jacob Ringuette and Keaton Middleton took the assists on the play. The Spirit headed to the locker room with the board reading a final score of 5-4 over the Sting. Final shots on goal favored the Sarnia Sting 40-32.
