January 3, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

It was quite the game for the Generals in Sudbury tonight. Jeremy Brodeur recorded his first OHL shutout in the 6-0 win. Michael Dal Colle had four points, Michael McCarron, who was also playing his first game as a General, had three points and Cole Cassels also picked up three points for himself.

Tonight was the third time these two teams have met this season. Both teams had some changes since the last meeting. Michael McCarron and Dakota Mermis made their debut with the Generals tonight with McCarron sporting number 55 and Mermis wearing number 44. The Wolves made a coaching change earlier today with Associate coach David Matsos replacing Paul Fixter on an interim basis.

Jeremy Brodeur was in net for the Generals and Troy Timpano stood in goal for the Wolves. The first period was strong for both teams. There was only one penalty, which was a tripping call to Chris Carlisle. There were some close scoring opportunities for Cole Cassels and Hunter Smith but Timpano was strong all period. At 14:57, Michael Dal Colle opened the scoring with an assist by McCarron. Dal Colle's goal extended his point streak to 19 games. After 20 minutes, the Generals lead shots on goal with 16-8 and a 1-0 lead.

The Generals came out hungry in the second period scoring three goals. Josh Brown and Pavel Jenys sat for roughing less than two minutes into the period. The first power play opportunity for the Gens came 8:20 in from a tripping call on Travis Wood. This time McCarron found the net with assists by Dal Colle and Cassels, which gave him his first goal as a General. Less than two minutes later, Jonathon Masters sat for holding and Cassels made it 3-0 with assists by Dal Colle and McCarron. Brody Silk almost put the Wolves on the scoreboard but Brodeur made a huge save. In the last few minutes, Stephen Desrocher's point shot was deflected by Hunter Smith and made it a 4-0 game. At the end of the second, Dal Colle and McCarron both had 1 goal and two assists. The Generals outshot the Wolves 16-6 in the second period.

The momentum from the Generals continued into the third with another two goals. Cassels received four minutes for a high-sticking call but it was the Generals who were able to score shorthanded. Mermis picked up his first goal as a General, which was unassisted. Things started to get physical when McCarron made a huge hit on Schmalz, which some Wolves didn't agree with. McCarron and Duchesne were sent to the box for roughing and the Generals were back on the power play with Schmlaz sitting for roughing. Newly acquired Brent Pederesen snagged his first goal tonight assisted by Cassels and Dal Colle. The game wrapped up with the Gens outshooting the Wolves 51-20.

The Generals are on the road again tomorrow when they take on the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds in a 2:05P.M. start time. The Gens will be back on home ice Sunday, Jan. 11 to take on the Mississauga Steelheads at 6:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-436-8811.
