Spirit Lose Game 4

The North Shore Spirit fell 11-4 to the Elmira Pioneers on Thursday night at the New Fraser Field in Lynn. In front of a crowd of 1,259, Spirit pitcher Klae Calvert was handed his first loss of the season fanning four and giving up seven runs.

Hatuey Mendoza picked up the win for the Pioneers, pitching seven innings and giving up one earned run. Both teams scored a run in the first inning. In the third inning John Schmitz singled and was waved home on a Frank Charles double. The Pioneers retaliated in the fourth inning with 3 runs. Scott Hunter, Brian Jones, Matt Williams and Dennis Abreu all singled and Ryan Lehr had a double that scored one.

Another double by Frank Charles in the fifth inning scored Marcos Agramonte and John Schmitz who had both reached base on errors. Elmira tallied two runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings to finish with 16 hits. Cleatus Davidson and Dennis Abreu both went three for five for Elmira and John Schmitz had three hits, three runs scored and a stolen base for the North Shore Spirit.

Jeremy Sugarman and Wes Crawford pitched in relief for Calvert allowing five combined hits and four runs, two earned.

The next Spirit home game is June 30 against the Bangor Lumberjacks. On June 30, there will be a raffle for the new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Two copies will be raffled off during the game. Raffle tickets cost $1.
