New Jersey Jackals News Release
Mike Glendenning hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and Chris Rowan added a solo shot in the seventh to propel the Jackals to a 7-5 victory over Allentown at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.
With two outs in the New Jersey half of the fifth and the Ambassadors up 4-2, Joe Kerrigan and Travis Bailey slapped back-to-back singles. Glendenning followed by crushing Reed Harvey's 1-0 pitch over the right field fence for a 5-4 lead. New Jersey would add one more run in the inning on a Keith Maxwell RBI single.
Rowan's blast in the seventh made it 7-4, but the Ambassadors would threaten in the eighth. Ken Henderson walked Julio Acosta to lead off the inning and former Jackal Cedrick Harris followed with a double. Matt Powell relieved Henderson and walked Jorge Diaz to load the bases. Powell then hit Ender Gonzalez with a pitch to bring in Acosta and shrink the Jackals lead to 7-5.
But Ben Grezlovski closed the door, forcing Vic Davilla to ground out to Glendenning at first. Grezlovski, appearing for the fourth consecutive game, pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save in as many days.
Henderson (1-1) earned the victory in relief of starter Joe Magri, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings. Harvey (0-1) took the loss for Allentown.
Every Jackals starter except Darren Blakely had a base hit, including three by Rowan. John Anderson also had two hits, a double and a triple.
