Washington Spirit News Release
BOYDS, Md. (June 26, 2015) - The Washington Spirit (4-3-2, 14 points) are back home this weekend to play the Houston Dash (3-2,-3, 13 points) on June 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Maureen Hendricks Field. (GAME NOTES)
"We have a special opportunity to play at home again in front of the best fans in the league," said head coach Mark Parsons. "The team is focused on putting on a strong performance and continue the progress we have made in the last few weeks."
The Washington Spirit opened the 2015 NWSL season against the Houston Dash and suffered a 2-0 loss. The Spirit played an even match against the Dash having eleven shots to the Dash's thirteen shots on goal. An injury to defender Ali Krieger resulted in an early sub for the Spirit. The Dash exploited the Spirit's back line netting one goal in the first half by Carli Lloyd and later in the second half by forward Kealia Ohai. Being without their national players, the Spirit and Dash will both have different game plans going into the game this Saturday.
The Houston Dash are unbeaten in their last four games, tying twice and winning twice. The partnership between Jessica McDonald and Kealia Ohai have comprised the majority of the Dash's goals. These two will look to combine once more against the Spirit, allowing the Dash to continue climbing in the standings.
The Washington Spirit, with the return of Francisca Ordega, will have their full strength front line of Ordega, Crystal Dunn, and Laura del Rio. Houston Dash's goalkeeper Bianca Henninger currently has the most shutouts of any goalkeeper in the NWSL. The Spirit's high producing offensive will have to break through a solid Dash back line and beyond Henniger to come away with three points.
The Washington Spirit, having yet to play a full ninety minutes since their home game on July 6th , but the team will look to come out strong and attack early against the Dash in front of the hometown crowd.
