Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. (Friday, June 26, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (1-4-4, 7 points) will be ending its 2015 FIFA World Cup break this Sunday when it welcomes the league-leading Chicago Red Stars (4-1-3, 15 points) into Yurcak Field, with kickoff slated for 6:00 PM. As part of the match, Sky Blue FC will be hosting a Pride Night in celebration of Friday morning's Supreme Court ruling to legalize same-sex marriage.
"It has been a long break. We have been able to recharge a little bit and work on some things that we have needed to improve," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "We had a good week leading into a game with our reserve team last week, and we have now spent this entire week focused on Chicago. It will be good to get back out there against a different opponent, and we look forward to being on our home field on Sunday."
The Sunday meeting marks the second time that these two teams have faced one another this season, with the first contest resulting in a 1-0 result in favor of the host Red Stars. In the match, Chicago midfielder Danielle Colaprico provided the lone tally of the match when she finished a rebound in the 54th minute.
The last time out for Sky Blue FC was a June 6th road pairing with Seattle Reign FC, where the team was blanked for its worst loss of the season, 3-0. The game marked just the second time in nine games that the Sky Blue FC defense yielded more than a single goal in a match.
The Red Stars ended their World Cup break last weekend, only to see weather cause a halt to a contest opposite the Washington Spirit in the first half. After a delay, the game was finally called off and will now be played at a future date.
Individual game tickets for Sunday's match are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849). All fans will also have the opportunity for an exclusive post-game meet-and-greet with midfielder Taylor Lytle and forward Lo'eau LaBonta by adding $5 to any ticket purchased.
As part of Pride Night, t-shirts supporting the initiative will be on sale at the stadium during Sunday's game (while supplies last). Cost per t-shirt will be $20. Anyone who is interested in ordering a t-shirt can do so by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849) or by picking one up at Yurcak Field on Sunday.
