Boston Breakers News Release

HANOVER, Mass (June 26, 2015) - The Boston Breakers will look to rebound after dropping their first match at home this season as they take on the Western New York Flash Sunday at 5 p.m. ET at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Allston, Mass.

The Breakers (3-4-2, 11 points, fifth place) saw their six-game home unbeaten streak snapped in a 3-2 loss against Seattle Reign FC last Sunday. Kristie Mewis netted her team-high third goal of the season, while Morgan Marlborough chipped in her second goal of the season to pace the Breakers' offense.

Western New York comes into the match at 3-4-1 (10 points, eighth place), having beaten the Breakers in the previous meeting between the longtime rivals. The Flash won, 3-1, in Rochester, N.Y., on May 2. Western New York is led by rookie Samantha Mewis. The No. 4 overall selection in 2015 NWSL College Draft has had no trouble transitioning to the professional ranks, netting a team-high three goals. She is tied for the team lead in points (four) with Becky Edwards.

"The Flash are a good, young team, and we are looking to avenge a lackluster performance away early on in the season. If we can shore up some poor moments from the last weekend's match and convert out chances, we should come a way the winner," Boston Breakers head coach Tom Durkin said.

If a Boston vs. New York rivalry isn't enough, a sibling rivalry will further the stakes in the rematch of Mewis vs. Mewis. The Hanson, Mass natives starred at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School and have played together on the U.S. Women's National Team, but for the second time this season, the Mewis sisters will compete against each other on the pitch. No strangers to finding the back of the net, Kristie and Sam both lead their respective clubs with three goals each.

"This should be a real-life Family Feud with Mewis sisters facing off in midfield," Durkin added.

Former Boston College teammates Kristie Mewis and Stephanie McCaffrey have picked up where they left off at Chestnut Hill. The Eagle alumni have combined for five of Boston's 10 goals this season. McCaffrey has been quick to transition to the professional ranks; she ranks third in the league for goals scored amongst rookies.

Following Sunday's game against Western New York, the Breakers continue their homestand in July with matches against defending NWSL champion FC Kansas City on July 9 and against the Chicago Red Stars on July 15.
