Boston Breakers Announce 2017 Home Opener
February 21, 2017 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Boston Breakers News Release
The Boston Breakers will open the 2017 National Women's Soccer League season on Sunday, April 23, against longtime rivals Sky Blue FC at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. ET.
Tickets to the home opener will go on sale soon at www.breakerstickets.com.
The Breakers and Sky Blue FC will meet for the 23rd time, dating back to when they first squared off in 2009 in Women's Professional Soccer.
"It's a great home opener for us. It's like a local derby," Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. "It was great to see both sets of fans at both games last season, which made for a great atmosphere. The games were entertaining and closely contested, and it will be good for the Boston fans to see the new Breakers team in 2017."
In 2016, the Breakers narrowly lost two matches to Sky Blue, falling 1-0 on the road and 3-2 at home. Sky Blue FC leads the NWSL series, 6-2-3, and overall series (NWSL and WPS combined), 11-4-7, however nine of those games were decided by just one goal and five of the seven draws were scoreless.
The Breakers open the 2017 NWSL season on the road at FC Kansas City. The Breakers and Blues play Sunday, April 16, at Swope Soccer Village.
Season tickets, flex packs, and three-game packs are currently on sale at breakerstickets.com or by calling 617-945-1704
