Boston Breakers Announce 2016 Season Opening Roster

WATERTOWN, Mass. - The Boston Breakers announced today their roster for the start of the 2016 National Women's Soccer League season.

Ten players return from last year's team, including Australian striker Kyah Simon, 2015 leading scorer Kristie Mewis, 2016 Breakers Rookie of the Year Stephanie McCaffrey, and veteran defender Julie King and midfielder Katie Schoepfer.

The 2016 roster features several new faces, including U.S. Women's National Team defender and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup winner Whitney Engen, Swedish international Louise Schillgard (nee Fors), who scored three goals and tallied three assists in four preseason games, and goalkeeper Libby Stout, who comes over from England after two successful seasons at Liverpool, where she played for current Breakers head coach Matt Beard.

All three of Boston's 2016 NWSL College Draft picks are on the roster, including defender Christen Westphal, forward Brittany Ratcliffe, and goalkeeper Abby Smith.

The Breakers open the 2016 season Saturday, April 16 at the Washington Spirit before returning to Boston Sunday, April 24 (6:30 p.m. ET) for their home opener against two-time defending NWSL Shield winners Seattle Reign FC.
