JAMESTOWN, NY - Andrew Sohn's first professional home run began a big sixth inning and started a string of six unanswered State College Spikes runs to send them past the Jamestown Jammers, 6-2, on Saturday night at Russell Diethrick Park.
Sohn, the 2014 sixth-round draft choice of the St. Louis Cardinals out of Western Michigan, sent a solo shot over the left field wall as the leadoff man in the sixth inning. The Spikes (6-3) would go on score four runs in the frame to erase a 2-0 deficit. Jhohan Acevedo and Danny Diekroeger each tripled to keep the State College scoring burst going, with Alex De Leon's wall-ball double also plating a run.
Collin Radack contributed a ninth-inning RBI single as a wild pitch contributed to two insurance runs for the Spikes in the ninth as well.
State College received superb relief pitching from Tyler Bray (1-0), who made his professional debut on Saturday, and Nick Lomascolo. Bray retired all six batters he faced, including three strikeouts, for the win. Lomascolo tossed three scoreless frames, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out two.
Cody Schumacher gave up two runs, one earned, over three innings in his first pro start for the Spikes. Schumacher also yielded two hits, a walk and a hit batsman while recording one strikeout.
