Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen, MD- Despite an excellent pitching performance from Dylan Bundy, the IronBirds fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones, 3-1, in eleven innings. The Cyclones put up three runs in the top of the eleventh to take the victory from Aberdeen.
Bundy excelled through five innings, striking out nine, allowing only two hits and no runs. He retired the entire lineup in order the first time through, but did eventually allow a single to Tucker Tharp and a double to Tyler Moore.
Bundy also made a spectacular defensive play, tagging out the sprinting Tharp at home plate after he threw a wild pitch to the backstop. Bundy was relieved by Nik Nowottnick in the 6th inning.
Cyclones' starter Marcos Molina was equally as impressive. Molina pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.
The Cyclones threatened with a runner on third base and two outs in the top of the eighth inning but, reliever Garrett Cortright got Amed Rosario to ground out to second base.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the IronBirds had runners on first and third with two outs, but reliever Eddie Villasmil struck out Stephen Wilkerson on a pay-off pitch to end the inning. The IronBirds and the Cyclones headed to extra innings after Vilasmil retired the IronBirds in the ninth inning.
The Cyclones threatened in the bottom of the tenth with a runner on first and third and no one out, but two fantastic defensive plays- a diving backhanded stop by Justin Viele and a double play from Wilkerson and Corey Segui- ended the Cyclones' hopes of gaining the lead.
Brooklyn finally put a dent on the scoreboard in the eleventh inning, as a wild pitch by reliever Stefan Crichton scored Tharp. The Cyclones scored twice more off RBIs from Michael Bernal and Jhoan Urena.
The IronBirds put together a rally in the bottom of the eleventh with back-to-back singles by Viele and Wilkerson. A sac-fly by Alex Murphy scored Viele for the first IronBird run of the day. Shane Bay then retired Riley Palmer and Corey Segui to put an end to the IronBirds' hopes of a comeback.
Juan Urbina earned the win for the Cyclones, while Stefan Crichton took the loss. Shane Bay picked up his third save. The IronBirds fell to 1-8 on the season
The IronBirds will look for their first win at home tomorrow at Ripken Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 pm. LHP Augey Bill will take the mound for the IronBirds as LHP Carlos Valdez will get the start for the Cyclones.
