State College Spikes News Release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Terry Fuller's second homer of the season propelled the State College Spikes offense early, and Dariel Gomez produced a tie-breaking bases-loaded single in the eighth to put the Spikes ahead for good in a 5-2 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Fuller's blast to right field in the fourth, a solo shot on a 2-0 pitch, tied the game at 1-1. The Griffin, Georgia native has now produced three extra-base hits and knocked in four runs in his first five games with the Spikes (18-18).

Gomez stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and laced a line drive to left field to put State College ahead, 3-2. The Spikes first baseman went 2-for-4 on the evening.

The Spikes then followed Gomez's go-ahead hit by taking advantage of a bases-loaded walk to Stanley Espinal and a wild pitch to score Brylie Ware to add on two more runs.

Ware also produced an RBI groundout in the fourth to make it a 2-1 game.

Williamsport (10-25) took the opening lead of the game on Herbert Iser's sacrifice fly to center field to score Logan O'Hoppe after his triple led off the fourth. The Crosscutters then evened up the score in the sixth on Bryson Stott's solo home run to right field in the sixth off Spikes starter Scott Politz.

Politz logged 5 1/3 innings in his longest start as a professional, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters.

Reliever Jeremy Randolph (1-2) then went the rest of the way for State College, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless, two-hit innings for the win. Randolph also walked two batters and struck out two.

Crosscutters reliever Adam Cox (1-2) took the loss after giving up all three eighth-inning runs on one hit and four walks, one of which was intentional. Cox recorded one strikeout in the effort.
