Tigers Walk It off in the Ninth for First Time this Season

Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (17-19) trailed the entire way against the Brooklyn Cyclones (20-15), but put up three unanswered runs including two in the ninth to win 3-2 on a walk-off fielder's choice. Corey Joyce had his second straight multi-hit game going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Wilmer Reyes got the Cyclones on the board in the first inning when he drove in Jake Mangum to make it 1-0. The Connecticut starter, Marco Jimenez, went a career-high 4.2 innings with two runs on six hits and four strikeouts.

After Jimenez was pulled in the fifth with runners at the corners, Raul Beracierta delivered an RBI double off of Zac Shepherd to make it 2-0. The run was charged to Jimenez, and Shepherd got a strikeout with the bases loaded later in the inning to get the Tigers out of the jam.

Shepherd also set a career-high going three innings with two hits and four strikeouts. The Tigers got on the board in the bottom half of the seventh when Jordan Verdon brought home Joyce on an RBI groundout to make it 2-1.

This was Verdon's team-leading 13th-RBI. Brooklyn starter, Garrison Bryant, pitched a career-high seven innings with one run on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

In the ninth, Ryan Kreidler started the inning off with a walk to reach base for Connecticut. Brian Metoyer (Loss, 2-2) issued his second-straight walk to Eliezer Alfonzo to put the winning run on base.

After a sacrifice bunt by Kona Quiggle, Joyce came to the plate with runners at second and third with one out. He delivered a single back up the middle to bring in Kreidler to tie the game at 2-2.

Verdon was intentionally walked by the Cyclones to bring up Eric De La Rosa with one out and the bases loaded.

De La Rosa ground the ball to the shortstop who flipped to second for the out, but he beat the throw to first to bring in pinch-runner Avery Tuck for the winning run. Raul De Los Reyes (Win, 3-2) pitched the final 1.1 innings to preserve the lead prior to the bottom half of the ninth.

The Connecticut Tigers will play in the rubber match against the Brooklyn Cyclones tomorrow night.
