Huntsville Havoc News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc went 1-1-1 over the final weekend to lock down a playoff spot. The Havoc will enter as the four seed will battle Knoxville in the first round. Games 1 and 2 will be in Knoxville on Thursday and Friday. Game three will be in Huntsville on Saturday night at 7:30. Game four, if needed, will also be in Huntsville on Monday, March 30 at 7:30. Game five, if needed, will be back in Knoxville on Wednesday, April 1.
Thursday, March 19 (vs Richmond) - John Ronan scored 1:07 into overtime as the Huntsville Havoc picked up the extra-point with a 3-2 win over the Richmond Renegades Thursday night.
Ray Ortiz gave the have a 1-0 lead with 12:32 left in the first period. Huntsville would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission as Justin Rohr scored with 2:27 left in the period.
Both teams failed to score in the second but Richmond would tie the game at 2-2 in the third on goals by Justin Joy and Trevor Karasiewicz.
Jason Price was called for tripping :44 into the overtime setting up a 4-on-3 opportunity for the Havoc.
The Havoc outshot Richmond 38-15. Tim Haun made 13 saves in the win while Ryan Scott made 35 in the loss.
Friday, March 20 (at Columbus) - The Huntsville Havoc dropped a 4-3 decision Friday night to the Columbus Cottonmouths but still locked up a playoff spot thanks to a Twin City win over Richmond.
Ray Ortiz, Justin Rohr and Travis Kauffeldt all scored goals for the Havoc.
Tim Green scored two goals for the Cottonmouths while Orrin Hergott and Sam Bowles scored one each.
Saturday, March 21 (vs Columbus) - Lorne Misita scored with 1:40 left in overtime giving the Columbus Cottonmouths a 5-4 win over the Huntsville Havoc Saturday night.
The Havoc jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by B.J. Radovich and Keith Rowe.
Columbus would rally and a take a 4-2 lead late into the third period. Tim Green, Mat Ponto, Ryan Rutz and Brad Patterson all scored goals.
Justin Rohr scored with 5:52 left to cut the score to 4-3 and Travis Kauffeldt scored a powerplay goal with 2:16 left to tie the game.
Ross Cherry made 23 saves in the overtime loss while Chad Rycroft made 35 in the win.
