Kauffeldt Named SPHL MVP
March 23, 2009 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Southern Professional Hockey League announced today that forward Travis Kauffeldt has been named MVP of the League for the 2008-09 season.
"It's definitely an honor," Kauffeldt said. "I want to thank Coach (Eric) Soltys, Coach (Paul) Snell who have both helped me develop as a hockey player this season. I want to thank my teammates, especially my two linemates, Ray Ortiz and B.J. Radovich. I also want to thank the great fans of Huntsville for all their support over the past three seasons. We still have a goal to accomplish so we look forward to making a run at the championship over the next few weeks."
The Bancroft, Ontario native was also named a First-Team All-Star after scoring 37 goals and recorded 33 assists in 59 games for the Havoc. He led the Havoc in points with 70, power-play goals with 15 and game-winning goals with seven. His 37 goals this season broke the team record for goals in a season previously held by Bill Monkman.
He is in his third season as a professional, all with the Havoc. He has played in 155 career games and scored 71 goals and recorded 98 assists.
"His being named MVP goes a lot further than his numbers," Soltys said. He had numerous chances to move up this season but he wanted to stay here with his teammates. He did a tremendous job is his first season as an assistant captain. His numbers speak for themselves, but the first thing he did when we found out was credit his linemates and his team, that says a lot about his character."
The Havoc will travel to Knoxville for games one and two on Thursday and Friday nights before hosting the Ice Bears in game three on Saturday.
