Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals took to home ice tonight to take on the London Knights in front of a sold out crowd. This exciting game ended in a 6-3 win for the Generals who demonstrated their skill and teamwork on the ice tonight.

Things got off to a quick start in the first period with the first goal being scored at only 6:08. Kenny Huether scored his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Manchurek and Vande Sompel, giving the Generals and early 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, the Knights tied things up as Max Domi put one past Jeremy Brodeur, who made his 10th start of the season tonight. The scoring wouldn't stop there as Tobias Lindberg made it a 2-1 game for the Generals only nine minutes into the first. The goal was assisted by Pedersen and Harding. The only goal in the period was given to Tait Seguin, who sat for two minutes on a boarding call. The period closed with the Generals ignited to go for the second; outshooting the Knights 14-6 and leading the score 2-1.

The second period was as evenly matched as they come. Shots on goal were even at 11 apiece and both sides had great scoring chances. With London's Rymsha in the penalty box for a too many men on the ice call, the Generals took advantage of the power play opportunity. Mitchell Vande Sompel, who returned to the Generals line up tonight, made the most of his first game back by putting a shot past Michael Giugovaz. The goal was assisted by Tobias Lindberg who earned his second point of the night. The Knights were the next to take advantage of a power play opportunity with Matt Mistele in the box for tripping. Dvorak found the back of the net and narrowed the Generals lead to 3-2. With just over 5 minutes remaining in the period, the Generals made it a 4-2 game with another goal scored by Kenny Huether, this time assisted by former Knight, Dakota Mermis and Joe Manchurek. The assist by Manchurek and goal by Huether were both their second point of the game.

The third period featured a little bit of everything from penalties, to fights, and a hatrick goal by Kenny Huether. Huether was a true star tonight, scoring his third goal of the game and seventh goal of the season at 8:48, assisted by Manchurek and Harding. Hats went flying onto the ice and the crowd lit up to congratulate Kenny on this huge accomplishment. Manchurek and Harding both secured their third point of the game with their assists on Huether's goal. Around the 10 minute mark, Josh Brown and Yakimowicz started exchanging words in front of the Generals net, Brown dropped the gloves and threw a few punches but the refs broke things up before it could escalate. Both players left the ice with 10 minute game misconduct calls and two minute cross-checking calls, along with Brown taking an extra two minutes for roughing. Matt Mistele sat for Brown's penalties and the Knights pulled their goalie, looking to make something of their power play. Being shorthanded posed no issues for the Generals however and Bradley Latour put the puck into the open net, assisted by Cole Cassels at 10:46. At 13:51, things got even more intense as Will Petschenig was called for boarding, causing Mitchell Marner to leave the ice from the hit. Max Domi was looking to retaliate and started pushing and shoving Petschenig. Petschenig was given a two minute boarding call and a game misconduct call for boarding, Domi also left the ice on a game misconduct call. The Knights scored on the power play, put in the net by former General, Josh Sterk. The final score remained at 6-3 for the Generals and London was outshot 37-25 in the game.

It was a special night for Kenny Huether, Joe Manchurek, and Sam Harding, who all had a three-point game. All three players were recognized as Molson Canadian Stars of the game. Jeremy Brodeur also played a fantastic game, making a number of beautiful saves to prevent London from earning a win tonight.
