Kitchener Rangers News Release

Gustaf Franzen scored the lone goal for the Kitchener Rangers in a 2-1 loss to the Mississauga Steelheads on Sunday afternoon.

Jake Paterson was perfect between the pipes for the Rangers in a scoreless first period, stopping seven Mississauga shots. Jacob Brennan made 16 saves for the Steelheads through 20 minutes.

Kitchener opened the scoring midway through the middle frame, taking advantage on the power play. Overage rearguard Max Iafrate's crisp pass found Gustaf Franzen all alone to the right of Brennan. The Swedish forward chipped a high shot over the netminder to pick up his 12th of the season. Nick Magyar also earned an assist on the lone goal of the second period.

The Rangers dominated shots on goal 17-5 in the frame.

The Steelheads hit the scoreboard with 16 minutes left to play. Josh Burnside carried the puck behind the net and moved a pass to captain Bryan Cianfrone at the top of the crease. The sophomore centre snapped a shot by Paterson to record his eighth of the year and second in as many games.

Everett Clark put the Steelheads in front with less than seven minutes remaining. Jimmy Lodge set up the second year centre in the slot, where he fired a low shot by Paterson for his ninth of the season. Defenceman Sean Day also picked up a helper on the play.

The Rangers out-shot Mississauga 15-6 in the third period and 48-18 overall.
